THE GREAT BELIEVERS BY REBECCA MAKKAI
StoryStudio’s very own Rebecca Makkai’s new novel The Great Believers is making its debut early this summer, and it looks like a great time to hop into her work if you haven’t already! The novel follows a group of friends through the height of the AIDS epidemic in Chicago, and catches up with them may years later in contemporary Paris. Needless to say, get ready to cry while reading on the beach (in the best way possible).
LESS: A NOVEL BY ANDREW SEAN GREER
This heartwarming and hilarious love story that came out last year just won the Pulitzer Prize, so you know it’s good. A writer facing down the onset of old age goes on a wacky, world-spanning trip to excuse himself from the wedding of his former fling. It’s funny, sweet, meaningful, and exactly the kind of romance that makes for a perfect vacation read.
THE OUTSIDER BY STEPHEN KING
You ever hear about this King guy? Seems like he’s written a scary thing or two before. Well, I just read his newest tome, The Outsider, that takes place right here in 2018, and let me tell you it’s definitely a terrifying story that I do not recommend reading alone in a dark room (so read it on the beach in safe, safe direct sunlight). Bringing together the gumshoes of Mr. Mercedes with the supernatural terror of ‘Salem’s Lot, I personally think this is King’s best work since 11/22/63.
