Description of Class
This camp runs Monday through Friday.
Calling all young writers going into grades 6-10!
Do you love to write? Do you spend your free time scribbling in notebooks, scratching poems in the margins of your math homework, and thinking up stories and characters? Do you dream of writing a best-selling novel some day? Then this workshop is for you — guaranteed to inspire you and keep you writing all summer long!
In this week-long Creative Writing Camp, you’ll write without worrying about grades or deadlines, create new work and polish existing pages, and work closely with professional writers who will help to guide your process and answer any questions you have about writing, publishing, living the writing life, and more.
At the end of the week, you’ll join your campmates in presenting your stories and leave with a poem, short story, monologue, essay, or even a graphic novel. Best of all, you’ll get to meet other teenage writers like yourself who are serious and excited about their stories!
The week will have several components:
• Writing: Writing prompts will spark your imagination, help you break through blocks, and let you reach new heights of creativity.
• Workshopping: We’ll share our work and give each other feedback on what’s working well and what opportunities we can find in each piece (whether it’s fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or theater). We’ll talk about where we can extend scenes and dialogue to push the narrative, how word choice can affect the piece as a whole, how to spice up language and how to find–and trust–your own amazing original voice.
• Performance: Campers will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform their written work! At 11am during the Friday session, families are welcome to join us for pizza and a performance to hear what these young writers have created.
Can’t make the June dates? This camp also runs in July.Top
