Description of Class
One night. One author. One in-depth study of the craft.
We are thrilled to have author Claire Dederer with us for this single-session master class, The Surprising Power of Form.
Tired of your prose? Learn how unconventional formats can provide a powerful and fun way to discover new material or to reshape and revitalize old writing that has grown cold or inert.
In this generative class, you’ll play with a few of the nontraditional story forms Claire uses in her new memoir, Love and Trouble, such as:
- maps of remembered places
- ABC lists
- faux how-to manuals
This will be an intensely productive class—Claire will talk a little about how form helped her battle her way past writer’s block, but mostly you’ll jump in and write.
Note: Claire’s books will be available for purchase at the studio during this class session, courtesy of The Book Cellar, Lincoln Square’s independent book store.
What They’re Saying…
Claire’s new memoir Love and Trouble, has them talking! She has received rave reviews from The Atlantic, The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, and more.
Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love) said, “When I got my hands on Claire Dederer’s new book, I instantly turned off my phone, cancelled all my appointments, curled up in bed, and read all day in grateful—and thoughtful—abandon.”Top
