Description of Class
Fine-tuning your manuscript can feel overwhelming sometimes. Fear not, Ben Hoffman is here to walk you through all the necessary steps to getting it just right.
This one-night course in advance of StoryStudio’s Writers Festival will focus on manuscript revision. Discussion will center on how to polish, sharpen, tighten, and—where necessary—radically alter our works-in-progress, in some cases by looking at mock examples.
How can we push our narratives from competent toward good, and from good toward great? Which revision approaches offer the most bang for the buck? How can we really determine what stage our manuscripts are truly in, and how can we build on their exciting potential? We’ll pay particular attention to beginnings, endings, dialogue, and notions of pacing and tension. This class will be a mix of craft lecture, exercises, examples, strategies, and tips!
And if you’re attending StoryStudio’s Writers Festival, you’ll have a strong and polished manuscript to pitch and discuss with agents and editors the following month! Students not attending the Festival are still welcome to register.
Some good news: We’re offering this course and two others as a packaged deal. If you’d like to sign up for all three, we will offer a discount of 10% off the total. Check out Gina Frangello’s Query Letters, and Emily Tedrowe’s Publishing Landscape to complete the package.
All three single-session courses are designed to help put your best manuscript forward at our StoryStudio Writers Festival on September 29 and 30. (Festival attendance is not required to register for any of the courses.)
- Each course is $55
- Registering for 2 courses is still $55 each
- Registering for all 3 courses will result in a 10% discount, bringing your total to $148.50
