All I want for Christmas is a finished draft.
It’s that time of year again for gifts, holiday parties, and end-of-year reflections. At the close of 2017, we can’t help but feel a bit—okay, a great deal—exhausted and in need of a little self care. The gifts that come to mind this year are presents that will inspire, rejuvenate, and connect us. Of course, there’s always room for chocolate. With that in mind, the StoryStudio staff is sharing their favorite gifts for writers.
Jill: A rainbow of extra-fine point Sharpies and loads of plain paper. Even though I “think” in words, I “see” in color and shapes. I love to use my markers to draw out ideas or mind map to make connections. Words and pictures … they go together like a dog chasing a ball.
Sherry: I’ve wanted a set of these “writing maps” for months. They’re a fun take on writing prompts and they’re each a piece of art, too.
Emily: A babysitter or child care money for writers with young children. Or a quiet room with a door that locks, and tons of caffeine and/or alcohol. If all that fails, prescription medication.
Jen: Time! A few empty hours to wander, think, and stare into shop windows and eavesdrop in cafés. Bonus points if this all takes place in Paris.
What gift inspires you this season? Share your favorite writing gift on Facebook or twitter. You can give the gift of writing to a friend (or yourself) with a StoryStudio Gift Certificate or a Winter Class.
