Rene has written for publications including The New York Times Modern Love section, and is the author of three nonfiction books in addition to her fiction. Her award-winning debut novel, The Enchanted, was inspired by her day job as a licensed investigator. Devoted to helping others, Rene works with men and women on death row, sex trafficking victims and innocents in prison. Rene was the chief investigator at a public defender's office and has worked hundreds of cases. The child of a difficult history herself, Rene is an accomplished speaker who loves connecting with communities. Rene’s second novel, The Child Finder, has received rave reviews. Publisher's Weekly says "the conclusion will leave readers breathless." The Child Finder was inspired by her investigative work, as well as twenty years experience as a foster-adoptive mother of twenty years. Rene lives in Portland, Oregon, where she is the proud parent to three kids adopted from foster care.
