Writers in Training at StoryStudio (WITS)

Mission

The Writers in Training at StoryStudio (WITS) mission is to foster confidence and creativity in writing through small group classes and academic tutoring. Our encouraging atmosphere helps young writers in grades six through twelve to build their writing skills and fluency.

Our Program

Our focus is not on grades or attendance or percentages or test scores. Rather, we’re committed to teaching the next generation of writers and readers.

Students find our classes (yes, even the academic ones!) fun and creative. Our learning modules are tailored to provide a powerful mix of writing instruction, hands-on workshopping, and individual attention.

Why StoryStudio?

Small group instruction — StoryStudio classes are limited to 15 students, assuring each writer personal attention and engaging classroom interaction.

Writers on writing - Our instructors are professional writers and teachers who adjust lesson plans to fit the needs of each student.

We bring the lessons of creative writing to academics – Using storytelling techniques to unlock the inner writer in your child, we show young writers how to tap into their creative spirit while working within academic essay structures and goals.

Through writing exercises and craft lessons, students learn to get the words out in a first draft, and then how to sculpt their words into a well-organized essay or imaginative story.

The WITS program includes creative writing classes, small-group academic writing and reading classes, and individual writing tutoring (academic or creative).

Who Should Join WITS?

StoryStudio's Writers in Training program is open to any young writer entering 5th grade all the way through graduating seniors. Writers at all levels will excel in this program through opportunities to write fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry. Many youths will benefit from academic writing classes such as Writing the Essay, College Application Essay Camp, and Books I Should Have Read.
