It may be a well-kept secret, but the North Shore has a rich literary history that StoryStudio is thrilled to tap into. There are writers galore here, amid the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan and the leaning oak trees. StoryStudio's North Shore location offers a bit of quiet in the heart of downtown Winnekta, just steps from shops and parks and hidden squares of inspiration. Moms and dads, grandmothers and grandfathers, teenagers and almost-teenagers. They are all here at the North Shore studio learning to be better writers. Their stories range from family histories to personal essays to vivid short stories or novels in progress. Many are accomplished writers with publishing credits, and even more are just getting back to their words.
Our younger writers are just as varied. Teenagers grace the studio with their energy and excitement as they learn what it means to express themselves. Afternoons see middle and high school students working on their academic writing or preparing college application essays.
Some writers come every week, some for a one-night class, and some for the Free Write sessions. And some writers show up just to hang out with other writers.

What?
The studio has two classrooms, a tutoring room, kitchen, and writers lounge. There are tables and comfy chairs and an electric hot water kettle that gets no rest. On the wall is the coat hook of your choice and expressionist art to tickle the imagination. StoryStudio's North Shore location is a haven from the hectic pace of daily life.During the daytime hours, adult writers are deep in concentration or laughing around the table. After school, the kids come in to write out their passions in poetry or essays. In the evenings, it's the adults again, ready to write and talk and share their stories.
When?
Our North Shore location typically runs daytime adult creative writing classes beginning at 10am or 12:15pm. Afterschool programs for young writers begin at 4pm, and adult evening classes begin at 6:30pm.Where?

If you’re taking the Metra:The Metra Winnetka station is just a block and a half west of the studio. Exit onto Elm or Lincoln streets and walk one block east to 723 Elm.
