For writers looking for intensive, personalized attention to their work, StoryStudio offers individual coaching and manuscript review.

Coaching

Work individually with a writing coach to get the regular attention and feedback you need to keep writing.

Each week you will have a scheduled appointment with your coach for a one-hour consultation over Skype or phone. Before that appointment, you’ll email the coach some written material to review, up to five pages per session. Use your meetings to discuss ongoing drafts, generate new material, or map out goals for your writing—anything you need to keep your projects moving and your motivation high.

Fees

Creative writing coaching is offered in monthly packages that include one hour of instructor reading/reviewing time and four consultations via Skype or phone, for a total of five hours. Coaching periods begin either at the 1st or 15th of each month.

Manuscript Review

Our manuscript reviews are designed for writers who wish to go deeper into their stories and book-length projects.

How it Works
Our focus is on your manuscript. When reviewing your drafts, we look at character, plot, voice, pacing, and language. Your instructor will include comments on the draft and prepare a written summary of what’s working in the draft and what opportunities there are to strengthen it.

Our packages include reading and reviewing time by the instructor, as well as meeting time via Skype/phone or in-person to discuss comments and suggestions.

PLEASE NOTE: All manuscripts should be typed and double-spaced with one-inch margins. In many cases, we can use MS Word Track Changes to provide changes digitally. If a hard copy review is needed, students must provide the instructor with a printed draft.

Starter Package

This package includes enough reading/reviewing time for a piece up to 20 pages, along with a one-hour meeting. Perfect for an essay, memoir piece, short story, or novel excerpt.

Fee: $200

Novel/Book Review

We’ll read and review up to 225 pages of your novel or non-fiction book and prepare a comprehensive author letter report including thoughts on plot, character, language, voice and other aspects of storytelling. This package is for writers who are still open to discovering the story or who have completed a first or second draft and would like a fresh perspective. This package includes one hour of meeting time with the instructor via Skype/phone or in-person. (Please note: this package does not include line editing.)

Fee: $725, plus $3.00 per each additional page.
