Writing the Memoir (One Night Intro)
Wednesday, September 15
Every life is a treasure trove of stories waiting to be plundered, and, despite the best efforts of James Frey and that raised-by-wolves lady, the genre of memoir is here to stay.
In this class you’ll learn about the unique blend of fiction and essay characteristics that set memoir apart from other genres. You’ll read some examples of memoir and participate in in-class writing exercises to explore the ways craft elements such as dialogue, scenes and flowing language can transform memory into art.

Writer’s Roadmap
This is an excellent course for beginning and intermediate writers interested in creative non-fiction and memoir, especially those who may feel blocked or want direction on which stories to tell. From here, take Creative Writing I to learn basic storycraft, or The Craft of Personal Narrative, to dig deeper into the skills needed to craft personal essays and memoirs.

About the Instructor: Kelley Clink has a BA and an MA in Literature. She started out as a student at StoryStudio Chicago four years ago, and since then her nonfiction has appeared in The South Loop Review, Under the Sun, flashquake.org, and The Gettysburg Review.
