Writing Sex
Description: “If you know how to have sex you know how to write sex.”
This is a dangerously common misperception, the effects of which can be calamitous. (See Clan of the Cave Bear.) In this three-week class, students will analyze the role of sex in literary works, discover how and when to deftly employ a sex scene for the most potent effect, and learn how to write a powerful, effective sex scene.
Through careful reading of texts like Jane Delynn’s The Leash, as well as thought-provoking discussion, in-class writing, and weekly-work shopping, students will emerge from the seminar primed to effectively integrate sex into their writing, thereby creating stronger works of fiction.
Who Should Attend: This course is for writers of all levels, from beginners to published authors, who are looking to improve their skills at writing intimate scenes in any kind of fictional work.
