Who says writing is only about the words? Join us for this fun and exciting one day session as we explore how to bring words and images together into an oft-overlooked form of literature – the graphic novel.

From The Watchmen to The Dark Knight to 300, the influence of graphic novels is all around us. But too often, these works are viewed as somehow inferior to “real” literature. Well, we are here to praise the graphic novel and to find out how we can dive into this rich world ourselves.

In this 2 hour session, students will start by examining how to tell a story using images in addition to words. From there, we will take a look at some examples of graphic novels and comic books from writers such as Alan Moore and Frank Miller. We’ll break down how these greats craft their work, and then students will take the first steps towards creating their very own graphic novels.

For this class, no artistic talent is necessary (some of the great writers in this genre actually aren’t such fantastic artists themselves!); all you need is a creative mind and an appreciation for the great stories you can tell in comics.

This class is open to students from grades 6 through 10, and will be a relaxed way to try writing in a different format. Come give it a shot. And remember, at StoryStudio, we make writing fun.
