Story Workout

Begins Wednesday, July 6, 2011

Join this daytime “Workout” class that combines in-class writing exercises, take home writing assignments and discussion of our work. It is a fun, invigorating way to open your imagination and sharpen your story craft skills. A wonderful way to keep your writing muscle nice and loose.

You’ll leave each class with a couple “story starts” or scenes, and a better sense of direction for projects that you have in progress. Plus you’ll have the opportunity to receive instructor feedback on a working draft.

Come work out your writing muscle!

StoryStudio classes are typically limited to 15 participants or fewer. This intimate setting allows for greater interaction and personal attention.

Writer’s Roadmap This is an excellent course for beginning and intermediate writers interested in Fiction, especially those who may feel blocked or wish to develop a set of characters and sharpen their craft skills. (Non-fiction writers should take a look at Lifewriting.)

Story Workout may be taken multiple times. After completing this class, writers should consider Craft of Novel Writing or Craft of the Short Story. Intermediate writers may wish to join the Short Story Workshop or Novel Workshop.

About the Instructor: Scott Onak holds an MFA from the University of Idaho and has stories published and forthcoming in Mid-American Review, cold-drill, and Quick Fiction. He has taught English and creative writing at the college level in Chicago and elsewhere. His connection to StoryStudio Chicago began years ago as a student in the Short Story Workshop, and he is thrilled to return now as a staff member and instructor and sometimes friend of the studio mascot, Zia the Greyhound.
