Overcoming Writer's Block

Description: We all call it something different, but we all know it as the same thing: a block to our writing process that prevents us from reaching that place of creativity and imagination and confidence.

Overcoming Writer’s Block will take you through four weeks of exercises—both in class and take-home prompts— to alleviate the weight of blocks and to get you back in the game.

Each class session will focus on a different opportunity to get you writing again: The Pleasure of the Crossword, Imitations, Other Arts, and Revision each have different kind of key to unlock those words and cajole them into once again, pouring forth.

Who Should Attend: This class is open to writers at all levels, especially those who have been feeling “blocked” in their writing. This is also a great class for writers who want to get 6-8 “seeds” of new stories written.

About the Instructor: Chad Chmielowicz is a 2003 graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. His work and reviews have appeared in the The Journal, American Book Review, and elsewhere. He has translated poetry from Burmese, Mongolian, and Polish, sadly speaking none of them. He works for a Chicago-based e-learning company creating training for a variety of companies and industries.
