Master Class: Time and Place
Saturday, November 6
“With great power comes great responsibility.” – Stan Lee
Writers have the power to create worlds. Even when the world is a direct reflection of the writer’s own, he or she entices the reader into a brave new world belonging to these particular characters. How will you describe the time in which they live, or the space that defines them? The options are endless.
Notions of time and place are inextricable from character and plot. In this half-day master class, participants will investigate how detailed settings exert pressure on our characters, and even how a potent atmosphere in your story can assist in the creation of three-dimensional characters.
Participants will also explore the worlds created by published novelists, read essays about place, and create new or revisit existing settings of their own. Students will complete three to five in-class prompts designed to explore setting in relation to plot and character.

Writer’s Roadmap
This class is excellent for intermediate and advanced writers (especially those who have completed Creative Writing I or Fiction I.) interested in exploring the possibilities of time and place and their relationships to plot and character.
