Description: Making Magic: wizards, knights, lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
Explore the world of magical fiction. What works? How do writers engage readers? We’ll discuss books that have made the leap and made believers out of readers who “normally don’t like this sort of stuff.” Using exercises and published examples, we’ll consider ways to incorporate these successful elements into our own work.
Fiction Writers: this is a great way to enliven your fiction and broaden your imagination.
Who Should Attend: This class is open to writers at all levels and with all levels of experience, especially those interested in writing Magical Fiction, Science Fiction or Fantasy.
About the Instructor: Kate Ancell is a writer and journalist, who has covered every topic under the sun and lived to tell the tale. While living in London Kate was a managing editor for Conde Nast, wrote an award-winning cookbook and argued for American Thanksgiving and Christmas Present for Britain’s Food Illustrated. She also regularly covers Mind Body Soul, travel, home design and everything in between for magazines as disparate as Hallmark, Vogue and Brides. Kate teaches our Business Writing 101 and is very excited to be a part of StoryStudio Chicago.
