Insider's Guide to Book Publishing

How does an agent turn your manuscript into the newest book display at Barnes & Noble? What’s the difference between an agent and an editor? How do you even get an agent?

Join us for this unique two-hour program with Literary Agent Sara Wolski. If you’ve written a book or are thinking of pursuing a career in publishing, this is information you need to know.

Sara’s insights and knowledge are gleaned from her experience as a literary agent in both New York and London. In this seminar, she’ll share information that is not widely accessible online or in existing publications.

In addition to an overview of the publishing process, you’ll learn the etiquette of a writer/agent relationship, get advice to avoid “new author” faux pas, and save yourself from common mistakes and misunderstandings.

Topics include:

  • What to do when you’ve finished the book and you want to get it published.
  • How to find agents who are looking for projects like yours.
  • How to successfully query an agent.
  • How to proceed when an agent expresses interest (or when no one does).
  • How an agent sells a manuscript and what happens after a book deal is made.
  • Working with an editor.
  • Options, royalty statements, subsidiary rights, and the continued life of the book.
  • Self-publishing, un-agented book sales, and self-promotion.

SPECIAL NOTE: Join us on March 13 when Sara returns with a follow-up workshop teaching writers how to Pitch their work to agents and editors in Art & Craft of the Book Pitch.
