Freelance Magazine Writing
Description:If you’re not sure how to break into magazine writing, the answer is simple. When in doubt, write what you know.
Writers will be encouraged to gain experience about, and improve their abilities in, selecting, researching, writing and submitting articles for publication. We’ll read a selection of articles, analyzing and identifying the qualities that make up a professional and publishable article. We’ll also investigate how to navigate the freelance marketplace, while discussing industry policies and standards for publication.
Students will be asked to develop and workshop their own article throughout the course of the class, with the end goal of producing at least one magazine article (350-1,200 words) that is ready for submission – and publication!
Who Should Attend: This course is for writers of all levels who are interested in writing for periodicals, online publications, newspapers and magazines.
