Creative Writing I
Next session begins Thursday, March 25, 2010
The best fiction and creative non-fiction utilize basic storytelling craft.
This class is for both fiction and non-fiction writers who wish to learn about those important craft elements while expanding their imaginations.
You’ll be encouraged to work on a self-defined piece, while experimenting with a variety of writing prompts and exercises. Great launching pad for those interested in either (or both) fiction and creative non-fiction.
We’ll consider the thoughts and writings of published authors, learn about story structure, and share our work with classmates.
In the workshop component of the class, you’ll share your work and receive critical feedback to help you move forward. (Students do not need any prepared stories before the course begins!)
This eight-session course will meld creative self-discovery, practical writing techniques and exercises in a participatory and positive atmosphere. After completing the course, those interested in a fiction focus may take Fiction II, Writing the Novel, or Writing the Short Story; those interested in pursuing creative non-fiction, should consider or Writing the Personal Essay.
StoryStudio classes are typically limited to 15 participants or fewer. This intimate setting allows for greater interaction and personal attention.
Who Should Attend: This course is for writers of all levels, from beginners with little experience to published authors wishing to “go back to the basics” and solidify their storycraft.
Should I take Fiction I or Creative Writing I? If you know your focus is writing fiction, then we recommend taking Fiction I. However, if you think you may be interested in experimenting with forms of fiction and creative non-fiction, then Creative Writing I is a good choice.
NOTE: This class may be used for Certificate Program students as one required foundation course.
