Tap into your creativity with autobiographical writing while you capture, recall, and re-tell key events in your life. Whether your interests lie in personal essay, memoir, journal writing or even fiction, “Memoir(ish)” will help you take your memories and get drafts down on paper.
During this 4-week online class, we’ll read some short published pieces and do plenty of writing exercises. You will be encouraged to draft several story “starts” and have the opportunity to get feedback on your work.
Most of all, we’ll begin the process of taking stories and experiences directly from our lives — and discovering some of the best material.
What to Expect
Students can expect to spend two to three hours per week reading, writing, and interacting with classmates and the instructor.
This work will be supported by:
- a weekly video message from the instructor
- a class blog, moderated by the instructor
- full participation from every student on the blog and in the chats
- email for one-to-one interaction with the instructor
- weekly, live video chat with full class
How Online Classes Work
Students will begin the week on the class blog to learn about the week’s topic and get their assignment. No long lectures or text. Just the important points and practical exercises.
Then “class time” takes place via video chat on Mondays from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm CST. Students will see the instructor and other classmates during this interactive discussion. (The only requirement is a reliable internet connection!)
If you can’t make the chat, no worries. All sessions will be recorded for later viewing.
