Who?

Our Chicago students are a diverse bunch and you're pretty much guaranteed to meet just about every type of writer you can imagine. There are people in their twenties looking to reignite the creative spark they remember from college, workers from the Loop who take the Brown Line El here to get serious about their writing, moms and dads who want to write about family, retired folks who are ready to set down on the paper the stories or fictions they've been telling
their whole lives.

We also have a growing core of writers who have made a strong commitment to their writing and to the profession of writing.

These writers come for a class or stay for several. Many never miss their favorite events like write-a-thons, Nanowrimo Write-ins, visiting authors, and parties. And some writers show up just to hang out with other writers.

These are our students and we love them all!

What?

The loft space has three classrooms, a student lounge, and kitchenette. We use every inch while running two or three creative writing classes a night and special programming on Saturdays.

During the daytime hours, you can find our staff here ready to answer questions or help you register for a class. In the back classroom, there might be a business writing class laughing and having way too much fun learning how to write better at work.

In the evening the aroma of hot coffee permeates the air, cookies are often on the counter, and the excitement of writers shedding their workdays energizes the studio.

When?

Our Chicago location typically runs evening creative writing classes Mondays through Thursdays from 6:30pm to 9pm. On Saturdays, classes and events are usually scheduled to begin at 10am and run until 12:30pm or later. Our write-a-thons are the third Saturday of the month from September to April, when we keep the studio open from 9am to 7pm and lock the doors until you get your writing done. (Just kidding on that last part. Mostly.)

Where?

Our Chicago location is at:

4043 N. Ravenswood, Suite #222
Chicago, IL

If you’re taking the CTA: Take the Brown Line to the Irving Park stop. When you get out of the station, walk east under the metra tracks to Ravenswood (where there is a stoplight. BEWARE: there is a Ravenswood on BOTH sides of the tracks. You want to be on the east side). Turn north, or left, onto Ravenswood and we're just a half a block away.

Or, the Lincoln, Irving Park, Ashland and Montrose buses all stop within blocks of the studio.

If you’re driving: Click here for driving directions, or give us a call and we can help you. But the easiest way to get here is to get yourself to Irving Park Road, then head north on Ravenswood. Make sure you’re on Ravenswood that is on the EAST side of the tracks. Our closest intersecting street is Belle Plaine.

If you take Metra: The Ravenswood stop is just at Lawrence and Ravenswood, about a 15 minute walk to the studio heading south on Ravenswood. (Be sure you walk on the East side of the train tracks.)

Want to Rent the Studio?

StoryStudio's Chicago studio is available to rent on a limited basis. Rates are $250 for eight hours or $150 for four hours. Rental includes coffee, tea, water, and wifi. Limited dates are available. Call us at 773.477.7710 for more information and availability.
